The speckled trout or sea trout as it is often referred to as, is a really interesting fish. Surprisingly, there are a great number of people who have never even heard of a speckled trout, but believe it or not, they are out there. These trout can be found in the bays or flats. They like to hang out around points and sandbars as well, but what are some of the best speckled trout fishing lures?

One of the most commonly used lure to catch these fish is the soft plastic bait. Now you have to remember that there are many different variations of this bait. The first is the shrimp soft plastic bait. This little bait is shaped just like a shrimp and is placed onto a jig head. The other plastic bait that many people have been using is the bass assassin soft plastic fishing bait. These are just some skinny soft plastic baits that resemble minnows.

Another great lure for speckled trout is a top water bait. One company that I know of that works pretty well is the Mirror Lure brand, but any lure that creates a good bit of noise on the surface will do. That’s the idea, to create as much racket and noise as possible. This will more than likely attract any sea trout in the area and hopefully cause one of them to strike.

Spoons are also a great speckled trout fishing lure to use if you want to catch some fish. Most expert anglers agree that a silver spoon is the way to go if you want to catch specs. Speckled trout are often called specs and spotted weakfish. Spoons are not that expensive and will catch a number of different species of fish as well.

Jigs are the last good speckled trout lure that we will cover in this article. Any jig will do, but you should have some knowledge of which colors work best in the area that you are fishing.
