The Best Guide To Goose Deterrent

If you have found this particular article, then you are more than likely looking to learn a few tips and pointers about how to control geese. If that is the case, then you are in luck. I have a piece of property that has a wide open field in front of a lake, so unfortunately I have had a lot of experience with these pesky birds. With all of the feces that they leave behind, one can easily be overcome by these pesky migratory pests. However, I decided to take a set of proactive actions in order to get rid of these creatures. So, I inadvertently became quite the expert in this particular subject and am willing to share all that I have learned with others. This article will cover many of the best methods for goose control.

Do Not Feed Them

The first and most basic tip that I can offer is to not feed them. I know that it sounds simple, and in all reality it is a simple tactic. However, from my experiences, most tend to feed them for awhile until they start to become not to fond of the birds, and then want them gone. It doesn’t work effectively this way. Now, I am aware that this is a natural process, but if you have started to feed them and you want them gone, then stop feeding them. This will make them less likely to become frequent visitors and taking up constant refuge on your property.

Coyote Decoys Are A Great Goose Repellent

Using decoys is another great geese repellent. If you are thinking of using those decoys that attract them, then you are mistaken. Here we are going to be talking about predator decoys that a goose is not to fond of. One of their biggest predators is the coyote. As it turns out, many companies have become aware of this idea and have produced some really good looking coyote decoys that are quite effective at keeping the birds from sticking around. In my experiences, it has been most effective when the location is moved every so often and faced towards the direction that the flock usually approaches from. These are just some basic measures for making sure that they do not get used to the coyote standing in one spot. In other words, it keeps them nervous.Another great one is the alligator decoy for repelling geese.

Liquid Goose Deterrent Works

It seems that everyone’s favorite goose deterrent is chemicals and sprays. Don’t worry; the majority of liquid goose repellents are environmentally friendly. Anyways, there are two main types of these sprays. One of the categories employs the use of a deterrent that tastes bad to the animals and therefore makes them more prone to not sticking around eating your grass. The other chemical gives them indigestion. Yep, I would say that giving a goose indigestion would help to scoot it out of the area. Don’t worry, this doesn’t cause harm to the animals. I heard of one of these chemicals called flight control also causes the land that it is sprayed on to reflect differently to the bird’s eyes and therefore make them less likely to land in the area. Another popular spray is called migrate and liquid fence.

Ultrasonic Devices

Ultrasonic control is also effective for repelling these creatures. For those of you that do not know what ultrasonic devices do I will explain as it is very simple. They give off ultrasonic sound waves that really cause birds like the goose to feel uncomfortable because it is really loud to them. However, most people can barely hear it. A very popular product is birdX.

Floating Water Units Keep Them Out of Ponds

If you have made it this far down the post, then you must really want some great goose control tips. If you have trouble keeping them from staying or sleeping in your pond, then I have a perfect solution for your. A floating water unit will help to keep them out of a pond. This device works by sending constant beams of light that really annoy the birds. This product is effective because it keeps them awake at night when they try to sleep in a lake or pond. Eventually, they will get sick of it and leave. I have even heard that it causes them to have insomnia. That is quite interesting to me.

Motion Activated Sprinkers Are Great For Goose Control

Motion activated sprinklers are also a great method for goose deterrent. Most of you already know how these work. When ever something sets the motion activated sensor off, the sprinkler is activated and the geese get gone quick. I like this one best because it works even when I am not there. They are easy to use and set up is a breeze. I have found them very effective for people who have smaller yards or areas where the geese control is really out of hand. However, in open fields and such, they are less effective.

Creating Barriers

Another way to get rid of them is to use tape or some kind of barrier around a pond. Most usually setup a bunch of posts around the perimeter of the lake and then a strip or band at five, twelve, and eighteen inches. Sure, they will be able to fly over the strips, but it does give them a hard time and they often times become aggravated and just go away. There is also holographic or reflective tape that works great for this.

Altering the landscape is an alternative, yet unique way of naturally deterring geese. Most people wouldn’t think of this as an effective method for goose deterrent, but it actually works. All this process takes is a few bushes or trees planted to take up some space and the birds feel less safe. You see, they have to be able to see a good ways in order to stay safe from predators. Any objects or buildings that take up space will do, as that is the general idea.

That would work, but not all states or counties allow it.
